Volkswagen Revamps 2025 Taos with Bold Design, Enhanced Technology, and Powertrain Updates

Volkswagen has unveiled the refreshed 2025 Taos, marking a significant evolution for one of its best-selling SUVs in the United States. The updated compact SUV brings substantial improvements in design, technology, and performance while maintaining its competitive starting price of $24,995 for the front-wheel-drive model.

The most noticeable changes appear at the front, where Volkswagen has implemented a striking new design featuring a reimagined bumper and grille with an available light bar. Standard LED projector headlights now grace all models, while connected taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen badge enhance the rear aesthetics. Two new exterior colors join the palette: Bright Moss Green Metallic and Monterey Blue Pearl.

Under the hood, Volkswagen engineers have significantly upgraded the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Through various technical improvements, including revised piston rings, modified turbo housing, and a larger intercooler, the powerplant now delivers 174 horsepower – a notable increase from the previous 158 hp. The engine maintains its impressive 184 pound-feet of torque output.

Perhaps the most substantial mechanical change comes for all-wheel-drive models, which now feature a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous seven-speed DSG dual-clutch unit. This change aims to enhance drivability while maintaining competitive fuel efficiency, with EPA estimates of 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway for AWD models.

Inside the cabin, Volkswagen has implemented a comprehensive refresh focusing on both aesthetics and functionality. A redesigned dashboard now incorporates a semi-floating 8-inch infotainment display, complemented by new materials and enhanced acoustic dampening for a quieter ride. The interior maintains its practical appeal with generous passenger space – 99.5 cubic feet – and ample cargo capacity of up to 65.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded in front-wheel-drive models.

Technology takes center stage in the 2025 update, with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance system now standard across all trim levels. This comprehensive safety suite includes Travel Assist for semi-automated driving, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, and emergency assist capabilities. The system can operate at speeds from 0 to 95 mph, providing drivers with enhanced safety and convenience features previously reserved for luxury vehicles.

Connectivity options have also been expanded, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility now standard on SE and SEL trims. The introduction of a new Vehicle Insights plan, offered at no additional charge for seven years, provides owners with detailed vehicle health reports and maintenance alerts through the myVW mobile app.

The 2025 Taos continues to compete in the highly contested entry-compact SUV segment, positioning itself against established rivals like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, and Toyota Corolla Cross. With its combination of enhanced performance, updated technology, and refined design, Volkswagen appears well-positioned to strengthen its market presence in this crucial segment.

The refreshed model maintains Volkswagen’s commitment to value, with the all-wheel-drive S trim starting at $26,695. All prices exclude a $1,425 destination fee.
