A Spectacular Comeback to the ARA Championship
Subaru Motorsports USA driver and extreme sports legend Travis Pastrana is set to make a thrilling return to rally racing. He will enter the 2025 American Rally Association (ARA) season at the upcoming Olympus Rally in Washington on April 12-13.
Alongside his co-driver Rhianon Gelsomino, Pastrana will not be competing in the usual WRX ARA25 but in an all-new rally car developed in collaboration with Subaru Motorsports USA’s technical partner, Vermont SportsCar (VSC). This vehicle will compete in the Limited Four-Wheel Drive (L4WD) class.
A Project to Boost American Rally Racing
For Travis Pastrana, this new venture in the L4WD class is more than just a personal challenge. His goal is clear: to make rally racing more accessible in the United States. “Subaru Motorsports USA agreed to build a more affordable car for me in the hopes of inspiring more drivers to compete in the series,” explains the driver.
While L4WD cars are modified, they remain more accessible than those in the Open Four-Wheel Drive (O4WD) class, where fellow Subaru driver Brandon Semenuk competes. Pastrana’s mission is to prove that top-tier rally racing is within reach for more aspiring drivers.
A Mysterious Car and a Promising Season Ahead
So far, few details have been revealed about this new rally car, but Subaru Motorsports USA is expected to provide more information as the Olympus Rally approaches. What is certain is that this initiative aims to strengthen competition in the ARA and attract new talent.
Pastrana’s 2025 schedule won’t be limited to ARA National events. He is already set to compete at the Rally Colorado in July, a round of the ARA Super Regional Championship. Excited about the challenge, he states, “We have some of the greatest roads in the world, and I’m looking forward to building something that will help foster great competition for years to come.”
Rally fans should mark April 12-13 on their calendars. This new chapter in Pastrana’s career promises to be spectacular and could play a pivotal role in the future of rally racing in the United States.
