The Jeep Wrangler has been lauded for its off-road ability, once again winning 4×4 magazine’s special Off-Road Award in the magazine’s 4×4 of the Year honours.

The expert panel of judges at the specialist off-road driving publication put the US-built off-roader through its paces to test its abilities against some extremely capable competitors.

The Off-Road Award special category concentrates solely on a vehicle’s off-road performance, a Jeep Wrangler attribute the judging panel were quick to applaud, with Alan Kidd editor of 4×4 saying:

“If you want a vehicle built without compromise to deliver the goods off-road, the Jeep Wrangler is in a class of one. It has all the proper off-road engineering like a ladder chassis, dual-range transfer case and beam axles with long-travel suspension, as well as clever little touches like doors that are shaped not to catch on the top of ruts when you need to get out to rig a recovery. That’s real, deep, know-how at work – and it stands the Wrangler in very good stead.

“The Wrangler won this award last year, too, and since then a new entry-level Sport model has come in, making it accessible to more people. That’s good news – though for showroom-standard abililty, the Rubicon version is like nothing else. But it almost doesn’t matter which
Wrangler you buy – it will, by definition, be the best place you can put your money if you’re after a new 4×4 with uncompromised off-road ability.”

The Jeep legendary off-road prowess makes it the most capable Wrangler ever, courtesy of unmatched technical content which, depending on trim, includes two advanced four-wheel drive, active, on-demand full time systems – Command-Trac and Rock-Trac – plus Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited slip differential and electronic front anti-roll bar disconnect.

The Jeep Wrangler range starts at £39,955 OTR for the Sport 2.2 MultiJet II 200hp 2-door, rising to £49,455 OTR for the Rubicon 2.2 MultiJet II 200hp 4-door.
