New Volkswagen GOLF R spotted at the Nurburgring

Already this year, Volkswagen is planning to release an all-wheel drive Golf R. And it seems that it is not giving up on plans – a future novelty was noticed on the Nurburgring track during last tests. But most importantly – the car was almost without disguise, which allowed to evaluate its appearance.

First, let’s note where the camouflage still remained. It is a matter of masking the bumpers and side skirts, so their final appearance is still unknown. The nameplate R was also covered on the grille. However, there is still no doubt which model went for testing. After all, in addition to the covered logo, the cherished R is also on the brake calipers.

However, now we can say that on the Golf R, most likely, there will be no daytime running lights as in the versions of the GTI, GTE and GTD. This is a system based on five diode light sources in the front bumper. At the rear, in addition to the unusual spoiler, attention is drawn to the exhaust pipes, which are integrated into the bumper diffuser.

Given the imminent debut of the model, it is not surprising that we already know which power unit will be installed on the Golf R. We are talking about a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline turbo engine. Its power reaches 330 horsepower. Volkswagen originally intended to install a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine from Audi RS3 here, but the latter did not approve of this decision.
