Hyundai Motor Mexico (HMM) has appointed Claudia Marquez as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective November 1st. Marquez will be responsible for managing all aspects of Hyundai’s business in Mexico, including its product strategy, sales, marketing, customer relations and dealer development, among other responsibilities. Marquez joins Hyundai with more than 24 years of global automotive experience and reports to José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America.
“Throughout her career, Claudia has proven herself as a skillful leader that motivates teams and delivers on sales growth and profitability,” said José Muñoz. “She is an expert in the Mexican automotive market and when combined with her other global experience, she is the ideal person to lead Hyundai in Mexico. She’s now an integral part of our Hyundai Motor North America leadership team and I look forward to working closely with her to grow our market share and exceed our customers’ expectations.”
Previous to joining Hyundai, Marquez spent her career in various leadership positions for both Nissan Motor Company and the BMW Group. Most recently, she was the vice president of Sales and Vehicle Operations at Nissan North America where she was responsible for Nissan’s U.S. sales and vehicle operations, including fleet and certified pre-owned sales.
“Hyundai is a company on the rise in Mexico and there is a tremendous opportunity to grow the business and the brand in the market,” added Claudia Marquez. “I’m excited to get started in building on Hyundai’s success and taking full advantage of the company’s global leadership position in product development and technology.”
During her time at Nissan, she was also the senior director of Sales Operations for Infiniti and the director of Marketing for Nissan in Mexico and Latin America.
Prior to Nissan, Marquez held a variety of positions at BMW Group Mexico, including six years as the director of Sales and Marketing, and at one point the brand director for Mini.
Marquez holds an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Alexander von Humboldt in Germany and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Trade from University La Salle in Mexico. She has also participated in executive management training programs at the Harvard Business School, Wharton School and IMD Business School and is fluent in English, Spanish and German.
Mr. Jeong Gou Lee who has led HMM since 2016 will remain as executive advisor to support Claudia.
