Hyundai Motor North America has named Brian K. Latouf as its new chief safety officer. In this position, he will be responsible for all safety regulation matters, strategic legal direction and oversight of all safety and emission investigations and recalls in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
He officially starts in this role on Dec. 2 and will report to Hyundai Motor Co. Global COO and Hyundai Motor North America President and CEO José Muñoz.
Brian comes to Hyundai as one of the industry’s most respected and experienced leaders in the areas of safety, regulation and certification. He has spent the bulk of his career at General Motors including a number of executive positions over the past 10-plus years where he transformed GM’s Safety Office while serving as Executive Director for the company’s Global Safety Field operation. He also served as Director – Canadian Regional Engineering Center, Global Director – Global Structure Integration and Virtual Body Systems, and Global Director – Global Safety Integration Center.
Latouf holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering Detroit from Wayne State University (Detroit, Mich.) and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Windsor. He is a regular contributor to a variety of technical publications and presentations and is Six Sigma Black Belt certified.
