With a unique activity, the employees at Audi’s Ingolstadt location celebrated Audi’s triple title win in the 2019 DTM and the successes of Audi Sport customer racing in the GT category: for the first time ever, race cars were driven through the production halls of the Ingolstadt plant on such an occasion.
“This was also a very special day for me,” said DTM Champion René Rast after driving the DTM-winning Audi RS 5 DTM on the plant’s premises. “The employees in the tightly packed halls were thrilled, waving flags, celebrating and cheering us on – that was truly impressive.”
Rast was flanked by the winning cars of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and the 10-hour race at Suzuka. Frank Stippler and Dries Vanthoor were at the wheel of the two Audi R8 LMS GT3 cars. “This was my first visit to the Ingolstadt plant today,” said Vanthoor. “Driving the three victorious cars in front of the Audi employees was a great pleasure.” Frank Stippler talked about “a really great honor.” “The beautiful weather perfectly fit the successful 2019 season – in the DTM as well as in GT racing. It was fun to give something back to the people who work so hard for Audi all year long.”
Achim Heinfling, the plant manager at Audi’s Ingolstadt site, said: “During the season, 40,000 employees in the whole region shared the excitement and thrill of our squad. It’s wonderful that our successful racers visited us today. They all belong to the Audi family. Especially after such a successful season, we’re all very proud of what these guys are doing for the Audi brand in public.”
